Chi-Town's Best Dog & Fries

1) Yes, the profanity and cultural epithets fly after midnight on weekends - but it's quite normal any other time of day.

2) Yes, you should know what you want to order before you get to the window or you'll go back to the end of the line. (Ask for two chardogs with the works, with money in hand, and then shut up.)

3) No, don't order the Chocolate Milkshake unless you're prepared to tip very well for something that isn't too pretty.

4) Yes, the frat boys and low-life trash who eat there late at night, are jerks. It's why the staff are so bristly.

5) Yes, the fries rival McDonald's in flavor and texture. Seriously.

Way above average.

Any average ice cream joint is better than just about anything. Toss in all the history, tradition, and flavors Rosemary's has - and you get a home run.

Rosemary's competes in a city with a 100 year old National Ice Cream icon (Dewar's) and it still holds its own quite well. I'll go out on a limb and say it - Rosemary's is the best Ice Cream in town.

NOTE: The almond flavored ice cream (tan) is awesome with just about any flavor. Try Pistachio and Almond (Green & Tan) and you'll see.

Solid entertainment. Good Fish & Chips.

Halibut is $15 bucks, but worth the upgrade. Cod is still better than any other fish & chips in town. (Except maybe Zingos)

Music can be a bit loud at times, but most wouldn't complain. Burgers and sandwiches are on par with a good deli, but try the BB King pasta. It has Andouille sausage and a really tasty sauce.

Not exactly finger-lickin' good.

This KFC suffers from employees with no enthusiasm for their work, or attention to detail. It's pretty common to get your order wrong and I have yet to get a bucket of chicken that was cooked exactly like the Colonel wanted it.

I gotta admit, it's good.

A hippie dippy friend of mine ordered me some wheat grass and fruit mix that looked like it came from the wrong end of a walrus...but it tasted wonderful, and...well, it was better for me than the Dr Pepper I asked him to get.

Mind you I haven't been back since...but I wouldn't chalk that up to the drink so much as the fact that it didn't have a drive thru.

Dang...I think that means I'm supposed to get my big butt outta the car and "walk" in.

They're on a mission from God...

...I swear I think HE works in their kitchen!

I stumbled into this place the week they opened, by mistake. They didn't even have any peanut shells on the floor yet. It was just sawdust! I ordered a coffee and it was rocket powered. I knew I had to come back to eat there after my job interview.

The job didn't pan out, but I moved to old town Monrovia 2 weeks later. THE FOOD WAS THAT GOOD!!

Okay, I moved there because Monrovia was amazing, but the fact that it had the best roadhouse diner in the world, had a LOT to do with it!

The bacon is cut THICK, so put it on your burger or order breakfast. You'll be amazed. The Texas Sausage dinner has so much flavor, it made being 1700+ miles from my hometown of Houston, easy to deal with. Oh, and the music they pipe into that joint...combined with the atmosphere and servers like Mike (who's been there since day one) - well it's just perfect, man.

NOTE: Order the 1lb burger, with bacon and their heavenly onion rings. You'll slip blissfully into a coma of culinary delight and thank me all the way to the gym.

I'm a big fan...

This is a great mix of traditional flavors and value. I judge all Mexican restaurants by their fajitas, and Rudy's never fails. This is an excellent lunch or dinner spot, but make sure you ask for their salsa verde for the table. It'll make your "chips and dip" experience a lot more than you bargained for.

THE Coffee House of Monrovia...heck, the valley.

This is what a coffee house should be. It's what they've always aspired to be. Even if you hate the quazi-chic hipster, coffe-house shtick, you'll love Monrovia Coffee Company. It's not pretentious at all and everyone feels welcome.

This Monrovia staple has seen a lot of owners, a few name changes, and enough customers who keep coming back - to earn your patronage. The best Italian sodas, lunches, atmosphere, staff....oh, and the coffee is divine.

Take a stroll along old town, and make sure to swing by here for the cherry on top of a perfect day, in what I think, is the perfect town.

Best Steakhouse - ever.

I've never had a better prime rib.
I've never had a better aged beef steak.
I've never had a better bread pudding.
I've never had a better mating of beef with Shiner Bock beer.

Oh, and I'm from Texas, ya'll.

- Hands down, the best value, best flavor, and best service you can get in a steak house. The fact that their menu is gigantic and everything is awesome, makes it even better. Take your skinny friends and let em eat from the awesome salad bar.

The red what?

I'd pay that kind of money for drinks if I was in a place that made me feel like it was worth it. Le Courusse Rouge doesn't.

The patio is nice, and the seats are comfy as can be. I could actually "lounge" around there for a while if they hired a DJ who didn't sound like he was murdering cats with circular saws for a living.
