Only choice for the most authentic chinese food on the westside

They have all the "weird" stuff here for real Chinese taste buds - roast duck, lobster, clams, innards, oong choy, etc. And of course they have all the "white chinese food" - beef and broccoli, fried rice, sweet and sour pork, mooshu...

This is the same chain as the Hop Woo in China Town Downtown. Park in the little lot on corner of Sepulveda. It's often jam packed in there so you might have to search for street parking, which is difficult.

The A- score is partly due to it's singular lack of competition in the vincinity. This is the only place to go to if you want to come close to authentic Chinese without having to drive to Alhambra. Ah the perils of living on the Westside, woe is me...

Okay food, servers in disarray

I only came here for brunch, so maybe dinner is a different story.

The servers are quite disorganized. Out of our party of 5, 2 people got the wrong food or something was missing with their food.

The food was bland, nondescript. It wasn't very good value either, I didn't feel like the food I had was worth the price I paid.

The only good thing is it has some tables outside on or near the sidewalk, so on a sunny day it's fun to watch the passer-bys.

I would say skip it, there are so many other places to go nearby, why bother with this place.

Solid Italian Fanfare

Valet parking out front. The place is mostly consisted of stuffy shirt Breantwood types. I've never seen any kids in this place, which is good. It's hard to eat when there are screaming kids near by.

The staff is pretty friendly. Quick service. The food came out super fast. Although I asked if they have sparkling wine by the glass, and the hostess said she would check and never came back, I assume they didn't.

I think the menu is designed around healthy Italian food (relatively speaking), they have things like turkey and vegetable lasagna, white fish, etc. The bread basket comes with two yummy dips instead of butter, one olive and one butternut squash puree (I think).

Top is off with a capuccino or some porto. Good place for a date, dim lights.

It's out of business, "F" for "failed to stay open"

This place was okay. The food didn't taste bad or anything, but since it was a buffet, and so few people came to this place, all the food would dry up under the hot lamps and shrivel into little hard things. There was a pretty good selection - chinese food, steamed buns, sushi, crab legs, shrimp cocktail, and you can get noodles cooked to order (like those mongolian places). But like I said, there just wasn't enough patrons to support a place like this.

So.... it went out of business.
Anyone looking for a lease?

Can't go wrong with McDonald's

I love MckieDees.

Fast and consistent, it does not disappoint. Drive-through is a great invention.

I mostly get the Big N' Tasty with no mayo - one of the least caloried burgers available at a fast food restaurant. And a 6 piece McNuggets (280 calories) with hot mustard or sweet and sour sauce (less fat than ranch or bluecheese) and a diet Coke or iced tea. Their sugar free iced coffee tastes great too, but it's soooo sweet, makes me think there is just too much aspertame in there, so I try to stay away. The frozen yogurt is awesome, but the machine is broken 50% of the time, disappointing when you are really craving one.

Don't come here late night, get the Taco Bell fresco tacos instead, less calories.

Large portions, great prices

This place is very unassuming. Sandwiched between a hooka place and a cheapie video shop, you will miss it altogether if you don't look closely. Street parking. The place is very small.

The food is great. Super large portions and they are all very "wallet friendly." I like the ceasar salad, good dressing. And the spaghetti is huge. Service is very friendly.

Don't take a date here, she will definitely NOT be impressed. Go with your buddy instead for a big hearty meal.

Great Eats, Paltry Service

There doesn't seem to any really good authentic BBQ on the Westside. I really envy Texans who can just drive off any exit on the freeway, grab some brisket and sausages, and pop right back onto the Interstate again....

Mr. Cecil's is the best BBQ on the westside. Nice large portions, great ribs, and yummy sauce.

It's not in the best part of town, there's a vintage porn mag shop across the street, you can pop over after dinner for some good reads and chat with the migrant workers who frequent there.

The service here is terrible (hence the B+). The servers are slow and disorganized. There's also a lot of phone orders so you are fighting for the server's attention. Best strategy is to order as soon as you sit down, eat, and get out. No 2 hour dinners here, since all the people waiting will basically stand by your table and make you uncomfortable until you leave.

Same chain as the one on La Cienega, yummy

This is korean bbq "americanized." Meaning - it's been made to be appealing to non-korean diners. Nevertheless, it is still very tasty and worth the trip.

All the basic staples can be found here - Kalbi, bulgogi, chap chea, pajong, squid, shrimp, on the bbq plate at your table, you handle the cooking. The marinade is pretty good, meats are delish.

Only downside is the "free stuff" that usually comes at the beginning of every korean meal is pretty skimp here - a small selection of 3-4 things instead of the usual 6-8. Also it is quite pricey here, since it's supposed to be upscale.

Overall very good eats, just be prepared to pay the premium.

Great place to eat a low cal low fat meal, if you have the self control, that is

This is a buffet self serve style place where you grab a tray and pile on your choices from the salad bar, shuffling towards the front in a line, pay at cashier, find a seat, fill your drink at the fountain station, get some hot foods and hot soups, then dig in.
(Or you can do those in stages, of course)

I like coming here because you can choose what you get and how much of it. I always pile on the lettuce and spinach leaves, cucumber, tomatoes, some onions, some green peppers, oil and vinegar, and no dressing. Get the pickles, kidney beans, beets, chick peas and raisins too, they help flavor your salad. You can get a vat of fatty dressing too if you like, they have lots of tasty ones.

They have a great selection of soups, some changes day to day. The staples are usually chicken noodles, some sort of chili, new england (white) clam chowder. I got cream of brocolli the other day, was pretty good. You can try them all, about 8 in total.

They also have some pizza, little muffins, pasta, baked potatoes, bread and butter, etc. There is a dessert station including softserve frozen yogurt.

Great selection. If you are on a diet come here and just eat the veggies. I know, counterintuitive, buffet for a diet. Exercise self control.

$9-10 for a burger, $3.50 fries, and $4.50 small salad

Decent "gourmet" burgers but not the best value, is it?

I assume they make the patties in-house, although I never asked. They cook the burger to order (medium is always my fav for burgers), and the basic "classic" comes with lettuce tomatoe and pickles - or at least it should. When I went my friend ordered the classic burger, it came out just a patty between two buns, nothing else. We had to ask for the veggies, ask for ketchup, and server basically forgot the order of fries and tried to played it off the kitchen was slow, and stuck up with the whole order of fries when we ordered a small.

One of the only redeeming factors is they have outdoor sidewalk seating so on a sunny day it might be pleasurable to sit and people watch.

Seriously the burger is not bad, but how badly can you screw up a burger? For the price and service you are better off going somewhere else.
